CRM can be defined as a management system which makes optimal use of all available resources: people, procedures and equipment. It does this by focussing on interpersonal communication, leadership, decision-making and most importantly, teamwork. By both pilots and cabin crew using CRM together, communication barriers are reduced and problems are solved more efficiently, leading to increased safety of the operation on board an aircraft.
The primary goal of Crew Resource Management is enhanced situational awareness, self-awareness, leadership, assertiveness, decision-making, flexibility and improved and effective communication.
